A.i art and adverts

The Good

For many people, business owners and workers alike, A.I is a massively helpful tool that can assist with many of life’s administrative tasks and fill in for us where the best of our ability still isn’t quite enough, from helping with grammar to less mundane uses such as being an accessibility aide there are a multitude of good reasons to use A.I – for example our director Nancy has had a lifelong struggle with dyslexia and using A.I has greatly improved her confidence in professional reading and writing.

The Bad

Recent usage of A.I for making adverts (posters, flyers and even videos) has seen a massive rise over the past year and, while it allows small businesses to better afford advertising, A.I ‘art’ has a notorious style that many people can recognise at a glance meaning that ultimately using it to promote your business will turn away as many people as it attracts. Not only can A.I promotional materials drive people away but it can be extremely unreliable at conveying the message behind your advert or even fail at something simple like listing prices/ product names. Because of how prevalent A.I media has become people (especially in the younger generations) will engage more with work that clearly shows real human effort put in. Even if the quality isn’t quite the level you would expect from a business maybe consider trying your own hand at showing what your company stands for because expressing your creativity is good for you’re mental health which we all know is being increasingly ignored in these trying times.

The Ugly

I’m sure we’ve all heard many of the arguments and talking points around A.I both from those against it embellishing its harmful impacts as well as those who profit from it downplaying legitimate concerns but even if you aren’t particularly concerned with the environmental impacts of the enormous data centres used to run these programs maybe you will worry about how it can effect you directly. As A.I develops and gets better at handling multiple – more complex – tasks at once more and more major employers are finding ways to get it to do jobs that were previously held by average people and with how expansive A.I usage is getting the job market will only get more scarce. Another major, but less practically concerning, issue for many is the rise in overreliance in A.I usage – those of us who could write a score of emails a day have offloaded so much of their work to A.I that they can struggle to do even half of that, and this extends beyond the world of corporate work and begins to bleed into every facet of life that you trust A.I to handle for you.

So What’s To Be Done

While I may have painted a pretty bleak picture for you just now it was not to say that A.I is coming to take all our jobs and critical thinking skills but rather a warning against completely replacing ourselves with a machine that is essentially very accurate guesswork – putting the effort in to make an email quota for your boss or come up with a new work rota is by no means a particularly mentally stimulating activity so generally they’re the perfect type of task to delegate to A.I when you’re too busy dealing with more important matters. That being said expressing your creative side and designing a flyer for your business will not only make people appreciate the genuine effort expended to get a message across but also its a great way to get some creative and mental rest (read our blog on the 7 types of rest)
